  • 2:52 Wins

  • 25:11 Barbara shares her observations about how different voice actors' voices sound. She finds it fun but also intimidating and she wonders how voice styles are chosen for different audio work. Jennifer thinks it's cool to stay engaged in hearing what current voiceover styles are trending, but also thinks one has to stay true to what one does as well and not worry if it's in line with a trend. Carrie suggests to pay attention to the brands because there are certain reads that are going to make sense for certain brands but not for others. Carrie advises to not read a certain way when auditioning just because it's "trending." Sion says in the chat, "You don't have to be able to do every voice. Your voice is unique. Be you." Carrie says that as voice actors, we can just appreciate every style we hear and know that our voices contribute to that beauty we are hearing.
Barbara adds that part of why she shared is there is this intimidation factor because she is knew to this and she doesn't know how she sounds like -- she feels she sounds differently inside her head and how she sounds in a recording. One of her goals is to keep playing around and go with what feels like "her". Carrie says to recognize what one's natural strengths are. Yes, you can develop skills, do different genres, but also, recognize what you do sound like and what you bring to a read and not just in your sound, but in your personality. There's going to be a certain take that you have on scripts that is going to be unique to you.

  • 32:41 The importance and relation of taking time (and appreciating the time it takes) in your voiceover journey. Take time to discover your voice and how you want to do reads.

  • 35:29 Sharing of wins again. (Michelle shares she has been working one-on-one with Carrie now)

  • 50:55 Michaella shares some tips about auditioning. Carrie: "You have to treat every audition like it's a job."

  • 57:11 A question about audio book training courses. Carrie recommends Accents and Dialects by Eliza Jane Schneider.
  • 1:02:43 Carrie asks for another type of sharing --- If anyone has experience with because this is something that a lot of voice actors deal with when their first getting started, whether it's an income barrier or a time barrier or some other type of restraint, please share.
  • 1:09:14 How do you approach the various barriers that you might have, whether it's time or money? And depending on what's going on in your life, how do you stay motivated? How do you try to keep building given the restraints?
  • 1:34:44 Question: I'd like to hear your thoughts on voiceover resumes. I'm auditioning backstage again and clients, they're often asked for resume. I'm not sure what to include. So I'll open it up to the floor first. What have your experiences been with resumes? And do you have one? And yeah, you have one. What has your experience been with it?
  • 1:52:23 Question: How do you create your tag lines for your business or resume?
  • 2:18:29 Question: How do you get your business name, website, and email domains to best match up as a one for your business?

Have any questions?

Feel free to ask anything voiceover-related and Carrie will try to answer it in the next Office Hours.
